Fuel Injection Systems are sometimes complicated to understand much less figure out what is going wrong. Here will cover some of the basics and show you some simple steps to determine your troubles.
A fuel injection system can be broken down into two systems. One determines the amount of fuel required the other physically delivers the fuel.
The fuel pressure/delivery system consist of the fuel pump, hoses and injectors which provide the physical delivery of the fuel to the engine.
The fuel requirements system, or computer and sensors, take readings from the engine and car to determine what Load the engine is under. It then delivers a set amount of fuel for that given load on any given engine.
This process of gathering data and determining fuel requirements is taking place in fractions of a second. The computer is constantly adjusting for the given load and power demands placed on the engine.
Step 1) Check the "Fuel Pressure and Delivery System"
Can you hear the pump come on when you turn the key on?
Most fuel pumps make enough noise to be heard when you first turn the key on. The pump will pressurize the system and then shut off.
Do you have pressure at the Fuel Rail?
You'll need a fuel pressure gauge, {ADD LINK TO ONE HERE}, hook it to the fuel rail on the engine and turn on the key. What did the pressure read?
